A little over a week ago, I posted about my desire to lose weight. I have tried before, succeeded and then failed. I was up to 237 pounds.
This past week, I was set to start walking, to get up and move. Unfortunately, a couple things hindered me from doing so. Last week I took out our puppies to hook them on their outside leashes. Our puppies are only 9 months old and are a collie/retriever mix. They are both fast and strong. When I hooked them up to the leashes, they suddenly saw something they both wanted to get so they took off. When I hooked them up, I didn't realize my legs were tangled in their leashes and one of the leashes got my ankle and the other got me behind the knee. Ouch! I put my leg up and iced it and by the next day it felt much better. It was bruised, but that was all. Yay!
A few days later I woke up and my right hip just didn't feel right. I have had problems with my hips in the past (I am only 38, not 83 like I sound) and I have had to go to physical therapy to get them "popped back in". Since we do not currently have health insurance, I am trying to get it popped back in by myself. It can be done, but it takes time.
With those couple of things that happened, I was starting to get frustrated again. I have been trying to eat better and drink more water, but I didn't know if that would be enough to make a difference. I read somewhere last week that if your body is not hydrated, you will not lose weight, you will most likely gain. I am usually dehydrated. The formula that was given in order to stay hydrated was pretty simple. You take your weight, divide it in half and that is the number of ounces you should be drinking. So simple. I can do that!
Even though I didn't have the best week, this afternoon I decided to step on the scale and see if there was any change. I weighed 232. I've lost 5 pounds. Woo Hoo!
I have an overall goal to lose between 80 and 100 pounds, which I think is a goal I can accomplish. However, when I look at that goal it seems huge. So, I have decided to make smaller goals that will lead up to my overall goal.
Goal #1 - To take a walk with my children and puppies at least three times a week. It will be good for all of us.
Goal #2 - To be able to wear my wedding ring again. I took it off over 3 years ago because I didn't want to wear it anymore. I can now fit it over my knuckle, but then it gets stuck. When I lose weight, I lose it from top to bottom, so it should not take that much weight loss for me to be able to wear it again.
Those are my two short term goals. As I get closer to meeting them, I will make more short term goals. I'm pretty happy with the 5 pounds I've lost. I know there will be weeks that are more and I know there will be weeks that are less. I just need to remember this is not a race, it is a marathon.
