While on Facebook yesterday, I read a post about a 6 1/2 year old
girl in need of a forever family. She is in the United States. She was
previously adopted from China. She was born with a cleft palate and has
had surgery in China, as well as in the United States. Her family was
not aware of the language/speech difficulties she would have. They feel
they cannot give her what she needs in order for her speech to improve.
Please do not think badly of this family. That is not my reason for
posting.
Because of her needs they are looking for a homeschooling family. They are also looking for a bigger family because the little girl is extremely social. These two qualities that they are seeking in a forever family, I have found to be very rare. They are also looking for someone who can work with her on her speech.
We are a homeschooling family. We are a bigger than average family. We can work with her and help her with her speech. Our youngest son was born tongue tied. He was also five weeks premature and had breathing issues. Because of his breathing issues, he did not have surgery to correct his tongue tied issues. Instead, I had him do exercises to strengthen his tongue. These exercises also lessened the amount his tongue was tied. Because he was tongue tied, his speech was difficult to understand to anyone outside our home (or inside on some occasions). I worked with him on his speech and he has drastically improved. His tongue is normal now and no longer tied. We have also taught our children sign language, which we think would be helpful if we were to be blessed to adopt this little girl.
As soon as I read of her need for a forever family, I sent a message stating that we would be interested in being considered as a forever family. We have a home study, however, it is not complete. Due to our original home study being for an international adoption, we need to have our home study updated for a domestic adoption. Our home study was also very specific towards adopting Lucas.
I have sent off our information. They will be contacting our social worker to see if our home study is nearly complete and to see if we'd be a good fit.I read this morning that there were several people expressing interest. It is all in God's hands. Now, we wait.
We ask you for prayer.
Pray for this little girl and the transition she will be making.
Pray that she will be with her new family by Christmas.
Pray that, if God see fit, we will be blessed to become her forever family.
Pray that if we are chosen, we can complete our home study in a quick manner.
Pray that if we are chosen, we can raise the funds needed to pay for the updated home study and adoption expenses.
Have a blessed day. I'll keep you posted!
